The investment beliefs behind our process
We believe markets are largely efficient at processing widely available information, but systematically slow to recognize the full implications of durable competitive advantage, long reinvestment runways, and the compounding power of exceptional businesses over time.
We believe this creates an opportunity for investors willing to develop a differentiated understanding of business quality, competitive dynamics, and long-term value.
Our philosophy is built on four beliefs that shape how we think about markets, businesses, and the conditions under which we are willing to act.
In our view, the market often underestimates how long exceptional businesses can sustain high returns on capital. Consensus tends to assume mean reversion; we focus on the evidence of what durable competitive advantages look like and how rarely they erode once established.
We believe owning the right businesses for longer than the market expects is one of the more persistent opportunities in equity investing.
Most investors have access to the same information. We believe the opportunity lies in interpretation: forming a specific, well-reasoned view of a business’s future that differs from consensus.
We look for great businesses and, within them, the specific points where we believe the market’s understanding is wrong.
Concentration magnifies the effect of every decision, in both directions. We accept that trade-off only where research is deep and conviction well founded, and we manage it with position limits and explicit exit conditions.
We expect to hold 10 to 20 positions because we believe a small number of businesses, understood deeply and owned patiently, is the best use of our research.
The greatest investment risks are often behavioral: anchoring to past prices, holding through thesis changes out of attachment, or acting on noise rather than signal.
Our process is designed to impose structure on judgment: explicit entry criteria, defined operating metrics, documented thesis reviews, and clear sell conditions.
These beliefs translate directly into how we construct and manage the portfolio. We concentrate capital in a small number of positions we understand deeply. We hold for the long term when the thesis is intact. We underwrite every position with explicit return expectations. And we exit when the facts change, rather than in response to price alone.
We would rather own ten businesses we understand exceptionally well than thirty we understand adequately.
We welcome inquiries from qualified investors and allocators.
